What is sound?
It is power and energy.
How is sound made?
When you make an object vibrate it makes a sound.
How does sound travel?
Sound travels by vibrations that move air particles. The air particles bump into each other and that makes sound waves that take the sound to your ear.
How do we hear sounds?
The sound goes down the tunnel to your eardrum to your bones to the cochlea and the cochlea sends the sound message to your brain.
Why can’t sound be heard in space?
Sound can’t be heard in space because there is no air in space.

Dear Mum and Dad
Did you know that sound is energy. It can make rice jump.
When you hit a tuning fork on the table it makes vibrations.
When you dip a vibrating tuning fork into water, the vibrations make the water splash.
Also when you make a tuning fork vibrate it makes a sound.
When you make an object vibrate it makes a sound.
